Water Bike

The teams on this episode must travel over water on their water bikes. The teams will race their bikes up and down a 50 foot floating course in a relay race. One team member must travel down the course to a floating platform and pass the bike off to a teammate who will travel back down the course. They will repeat this until all 4 team members have ridden the bike and switched platforms. First to do this advances and wins new dog-tags.

The Scrapheap Henchmen are going for a design with three wheels at the rear with paddles attached. Their frame will be made of metal and use PVC pipe pontoons stuffed full of styrofoam for flotation. It could be tricky having 3 wheels at the back and the metal frame will make it heavy. If the wheels work, they will move much faster through the water with more pushing power.

For the Gearhead Gremlins, it's one smaller wheel with paddles. They will also use PVC pipe pontoons but they won't be filling theirs with anything but air. They'll stretch latex across the ends to make they waterproof. Hopefully, the pontoons will stay waterproof or they will sink like a stone. Another thing is that the one wheel won't provide as much push through the water as the other teams should.

The Reds earned a quick 3 bodgits
Blue also earned 3 bodgits

The Red design incorporates a small
wheel. It's easy to build but not
very powerful
The Blue team are building an ambitious
three wheeled design. It should be fast
but it'll take some time to build

The Blues use styrofoam to provide
more flotation for their bike
Red cuts a piece of PVC pipe
down to length

A fin goes onto the Red's bike
Both team has a frame that looks
pretty much the same

The Blues are trying to figure out
how to attach their chain
The Red's finally get their rear
wheel on

The Blues have to weld the hub so
all three wheels will turn at once
In the final few minutes, both teams
attach all kinds of stuff to their bikes

The back-and-forth course
Blue immediately flips over! Because
the driver sits too far back, it goes
up and over

Red is also having a problem with
a chain that keeps coming off
Red finally made it across and the
return driver decides to peddle anyway,
using this feet to move along

Blue finally makes it across and
switches drivers
It was too little too late as Red gets
their last team member to the other
side, giving them the win
